Police are warning residents of southern Manitoba be aware of a recent sam.

Police have been informed of a mystery shopper scam in which a person received a text message from a group survey stating they are recruiting mystery shoppers.
When the victim accepted the offer, he received an email explaining the process and soon after a cheque arrived in the mail. The victim was to deposit the cheque, then withdraw $2500.00 and go to a Royal Bank to deposit that money into a certain account number.

The next step was to go to a Shoppers Drug Mart post office and send a money gram to a certain person in Belgium.

The cheque comes back counterfeit.

Police remind the public to be cautious of these types of scams and to never give out any personal information over the phone or through by email.
