It's the first weekend in October: There's LOTS happening in Westman

FRIDAY: Westman Youth for Christ concert - TONIGHT - Brandon Join the team at Westman Youth for Christ this evening at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church for a night of music and inspiration with THE COLOR, a two-time Juno award-winning band known for their high energy and powerful performances. They will be joined by special guests Exalt Worship. Concert starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to support the work of Westman YFC. Manitoba Barrel Racing Association Finals - Oct 3-5 - Brandon From today through Sunday the 2025 Manitoba Barrel Racing Association finals take place at the Assiniboine Credit Union Agricultural Centre at the Keystone Centre. New Exhibit open at the Arts Mosaic - Oct 1-31 - Virden Arts Mosaic held their opening reception for their newest exhibition at the CP Station Historic Centre in Virden. The ‘Edge of West’ exhibit features the beautiful artwork by Glenda Cairns Poirier. That exhibition runs until the end of October. SATURDAY: Harvest Festival - Sat, Oct 4 - Alexander The 3rd annual Harvest Festival will take place in Alexander 11:00 till 3. A fun day for the whole family to enjoy relay races, touch a truck, fireworks, bonfire, pumpkin painting, pony rides, bouncy castle and more. Westman Naturalists - Sat, Oct 4 - Baldur Join the Westman Naturalists on a trip to explore the area near Baldur, south of Glenboro tomorrow morning 9 am. Last year they found more than 50 bird species and a very nice coyote! At this time of year they’re expencting to see a variety of waterfowl and lots of other migrating birds. Mall in the Rink - Sat, Oct 4 - Wasakada A Mall in the Rink will take place at the arena in Waskada tomorrow starting at 10:00 am. There will be an assortment of vendors, face painting and lunch. The event goes till 3. Table Tennis competition - Saturday-Sunday, Oct 4-5 - Brandon U Get ready for one of the biggest table tennis events in Manitoba. The MBLL Assiniboine Open and Crusty Bun Cup are back in Brandon at the Healthy Living Centre at Brandon University. Top players from other provinces are joining in, so don’t miss the action. This takes place Saturday and Sunday. 75th and OGS Fundraiser for Killarney Vision - Sat, Oct 4 - Killarney The Killarney Optometric Centre is celebrating 75 years of serving their community. They’ll be holding their 75th Anniversary celebration and fundraiser at the Killarney Legion tomorrow evening with all proceeds going to Optometry Giving Sight. Hartney Harvest Fair - Sat, Oct 4 - Hartney AND The Hartney Harvest Fair is taking place from noon to 8 pm with the afternoon and evening full of events, including a hay maze, pie eating contest and food trucks. Brandon Wheat Kings - Sat, Oct 4 - Brandon The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Edmonton Oil Kings at Assiniboine Credit Union Place. Tickets available at the box office or visit the Brandon Wheat Kings website at chl.ca/whl-wheatkings/ - 6:00 pm SUNDAY: Ninette Fall Supper - Sunday, Oct 5 - Ninette Fall Supper at Ninette- to be held in the Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. CIBC Run for the Cure - Sunday, Oct 5 - Brandon Also on SundayThe Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is inviting residents of all ages in the Brandon area to join us at 8:30 a.m. at Assiniboine Community College, Victoria Avenue East Campus to run or walk either one km or 5 km in support of the fight against breast cancer. Registration is open and participants can choose to fundraise individually or on a team. Brandon Wheat Kings - Sunday, Oct 5 - Brandon The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Saskatoon Blades at Assiniboine Credit Union Place. Game time 4:00 pm Big Daddy Tazz & Friends Comedy Show - Sunday, Oct 5 - Brandon The sixth annual Big Daddy Tazz & Friends Comedy Show will be held at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. This year’s show features Rob Pue and local comedy star Danielle Kayahara. This event marks the return of Big Daddy Tazz after a heart attack earlier this year. Doors open at 6 p.m.; show at 7 p.m. All net proceeds go directly to Habitat for Humanity Manitoba — Brandon Chapter.
