Blake Wheeler scored the shootout winner as the Winnipeg Jets edged the Buffalo Sabres 3-2. Wheeler and Mason Appelton scored in regulation for the Jets who played without leading goal scorer Kyle Connor and defenseman Nate Schmidt. Both were placed into COVID-19 protocol on Wednesday morning.


The Manitoba Moose lost 4-2 to the Laval Rocket. Austin Poganski and Jeff Malott with his 20th of the season did the goal scoring for the Moose.


The Brandon Wheat Kings opened their three-game Saskatchewan road trip with a 2-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders. Charlie Elick had the lone goal for the Wheat Kings.


Manitoba champion Jordon McDonald has qualified for the playoffs at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Stratford. McDonald finished the round robin with a 7-1 record and has a bye to the semifinals. Aaron Van Rysell was 1-7. The Junior Women’s round robin ends today. Tansy Tober is 4-3 and Morgan Mageut is 1-6.


Canada clinched the top spot in the CONCACAF group despite a 1-nil loss to Panama. The Canadian men’s squad had already secured a berth in the World Cup after defeating Jamaica on Sunday. The World Cup draw will be held on Friday.
