The Boissevain-Morton Recreation New Building committee met on Tuesday night for the first time in several months.

That group is trying to build a new arena complex in Boissevain. The road to completion has taken many twists and turns.

Committee Chair Cory Billaney says the pace of the proposed project is slow but one the group members have to deal with as they work to make the new arena a reality.

“We had a bit of a break with some time off and now have new people on the municipal council and they need to be informed. We aren't at a stand still but keeping elected officials informed is a priority.”

For Billaney and his committee the key to success is keeping the project moving forward. He looks forward to the next step in the process. “We need to get a feasibility study done to see what we can build and the next question will be can we afford to maintain a new facility once it is built” said Billaney.

Billaney says the proposed new arena has been in the works for more than four years. He points out much of the work done to this point is still relevant to the project.

“The needs assessment is pretty much buttoned up. It may change slightly once the feasibility study is done.”

As for the location Billaney says they tried to initially go onto the agricultural grounds but that was rejected. The next step took the proposed arena next to Boissevain School and he says that is the location they are working with unless those plans change.

'There is some coffee talk about the project being moved back to the agriculture grounds but that's just talk at this time.”

The New Building committee plans to meet with the newly amalgamated Boissevain-Morton council to talk about the project at a meeting in May.
