The Mayor of Melita looks forward to a complete summer without any major construction along the community's main street.

 

It took three years to complete but the water, sewer and repaving project wrapped up late last summer.

 

Bill Holden says the project was needed but weather and and other factors caused some delays along the way.

 

“We had a big drainage problem with main street and a lot of water getting underneath the pavement. We've still got a few things to on the ends of the main street and Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation will come in to do that work.”

 

Holden says M-I-T will clean it all up paint the street and make it look nice and finished.

 

The Mayor says the project cost roughly $630,000 and the Province of Manitoba contributed $250,000. The remainder of the costs will be covered by local ratepayers.

 

Holden says planning is underway to hold a grand opening to mark the completion of the project. He also praised local residents and business owners for their patients during the past few years while the project was being worked on
