Killarney RCMP make arrests in string of thefts - Media Release January 5, 2024

Over the span of a 24-hour period from January 2-3, Killarney RCMP received several complaints of stolen vehicles, a break-in to a business and numerous reports of thefts from locked / unlocked vehicles in the community of Killarney.

Officers responded to each of the reports and gathered as much information as possible. The investigation led officers to believe the same small group of individuals were involved in each of the thefts.

While investigating a stolen pickup truck from a local business, it was discovered that the suspects had used a stolen gas card at a gas station and were captured on surveillance camera.

On January 4, 2024, officers, with assistance from the Manitoba West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST), arrested a 27-year-old male, from Killarney, and executed a search warrant at his residence that led to the recovery of items that had recently been reported stolen. Two stolen vehicles have since been recovered and are currently being examined for evidentiary purposes.

The 27-year-old male was later released for a court date scheduled for March 16, 2024, in Killarney.

Three additional suspects were identified and arrested: Two males (17, 16), from Prairie Lakes, and a 16-year-old female, from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. The three youths were later released to their parents, with the two males required to appear in court at a later date.

“The Killarney RCMP would like to thank the public for being diligent in reporting these incidents to police in a timely fashion, including the numerous tips,” said Sgt. Eric Descôteaux, Detachment Commander of the Turtle Mountain RCMP. “With the continuous information being received, officers were able to confirm the identity of the suspects and recover the stolen property, which will hopefully put an end to these thefts.”

Killarney RCMP continue to investigate.
