Recent moisture and a lack of a freeze up have allowed farmers to continue with their fall field work.

Andy Neufeld farms north of Boissevain and he says judging by the forecast fall work could continue for possibly another two weeks.

“We’re currently putting on anhydrous ammonia fertilizer into a lot of our land. It isn’t something we do every year but we find this year conditions are allowing us to do it this year. We’re happy to be preparing for next year. We always think next year will be better and coming off a dry year the recent rain makes it worth preparing for a good crop next year.”

Fertilizer pricing seems to be a bit of an unknown for the coming spring. “We know what the price is now and speculation is the prices will be higher in the spring. So we’re doing our best to get down as much as we can. We’re trying to make the most of our conditions before freeze up to get this fertilizer in the ground.”

Andy Neufeld says there’s a little bit more field work in his area and part of it is due to the extra moisture that his the region recently.

“The forecast looks good for next couple of weeks so our plan is to try and keep everything rolling along as long as we can” said Andy Neufeld.
