The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is preparing the next team of Canadians to travel overseas on the next Learning Tour, this time to Nepal, where food insecurity and poor nutrition are addressed through four major projects. These in partnership with local Nepalese groups that are already in place.

Manitoba Regional Rep for CFB, Gordon Janzen, will be participating in the Nepal Learning Tour coming up in February.  Janzen has participated in a Learning Tour with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank in Ethiopia several years ago and is looking forward to learning more about this part of the world and the projects that CFB is partnering on.

"Each Learning Tour is different, and the food context is different, and it will be a real learning experience," shares Janzen, "and we hope that we can bring the insights and the learning back home to share with other Manitobans here."

To prepare for a trip like this, Janzen says research is certainly the first step, to learn about the country of Nepal and its current economy. "But I am also looking to our staff who are leading the tour and will be providing some preparatory reading and insights before we go."

"And I'm looking forward to learning from the local partners on the ground," adds Janzen. "It's not so much the expertise that's coming from North American, but we are resourcing Nepalese to do the work that they are well-skilled in doing."

"We'll be learning from them," he adds, "and then we bring the message home as to what the Canadian Foodgrains Bank is doing in those communities and the need for our support."

Throughout 2024 Janzen will continue to connect with Manitobans, individuals and communities, churches and grow project committees and to stir up interest and more support for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, as war-torn countries and farmland and communities ravaged by tropical storms and earthquakes continue around the world.

"The statistics are really quite staggering," notes Janzen. "I have heard around 783 million people experience world-wide chronic hunger and that is way too many people and is something that we don't always hear about in Canada. Each one of those is a person made in God's image and we believe they deserve security of food and housing and peace in their land."

"I'm always so thankful for our supporters and we welcome interaction with the different groups in 2024!"
