A routine traffic stop by RCMP led to the seizure of drugs and laying of charges.

On April 30,at approximately 11:30 pm, Treherne RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding on Highway 2 in Treherne.

Investigation revealed drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The male driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested for possession of controlled substances. Further investigation led to the location and seizure of drugs at the male's residence.

A total of 13 ounces of marihuana was seized along with a number of cannabis plants and other drug paraphernalia.

Eugene Rey, 48, of Treherne, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Production of Controlled Substance. Under the Criminal Code, Rey is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

He was released and will be back in court in Portage la Prairie on July 6.
