"Families and young people are concerned about climate change, it's an issue and they want to know Conservatives have a plan, and we have a plan."

That from Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen who says green technology is the key to protecting the environment.

During a recent roundtable in Winkler, Bergen fielded questions on reducing emissions in Canada. She says the Federal Government's Carbon Tax would be scrapped if the Conservatives win this fall's election.

"We don't believe the Carbon Tax is an environment plan, it's just a tax plan," she says.

Instead, she says, the Conservatives have developed a plan that would support clean technology and then export those innovations to other nations. "The fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions... really is a global fight," Bergen says. "We believe... the world needs to be adopting Canada's clean technology."

She notes, as an example, Manitoba is building a clean hydro line to Minnesota to replace coal-fired energy sources.

Manitoba Hydro says they've received both federal and provincial approval to move forward with a 500 kV transmission line from Winnipeg to the U.S border where it will connect to the Great Northern Transmission Line to be constructed by Minnesota Power.

"It makes sense, we should be helping countries like China, India, and the U.S reduce their emissions."

Bergen adds the agriculture sector should also be applauded for their sustainability, "our producers are growing the most sustainable food for the world... that technology can be exported and help clean up other jurisdictions."
