The Baldur Regals failed to topple a dynasty Monday night at home, as the Morden Mohawks claimed their third straight Border West Baseball League title with a 10-7 victory in the fifth game of the best of five series.

"We had our chances," said Regals manager Gord Dearsley. "We had the lead and just couldn't hold on to it."

The Regals used the momentum of their 3-2 win in game four on Sunday to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. They held that lead until the 5th inning, when the Mohawks' bats caught fire, going off for 8 runs. This was highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Justin Cantlon, which cashed in three Morden runs. This is something that Mohawks catcher Steve Mullin explained had been happening all year.

"It's just something our team is capable of. When there are big games that needed runs, the bats just seemed to come through."

"They're a good hitting ball team," observed Dearsley. "They just started hitting the holes."

Baldur answered back with two runs of their own in the 6th inning to cut the lead to one, but the Mohawks answered back with two runs of their own in the 7th to seal the deal.

"We thought things were going our way. We had a chance to score a couple more runs and didn't, and left them enough room to climb back in," said Dearsley.

One trend that emerged in the series was that the road team always seemed to have the upper hand, winning every game in the series. "It's been a dogfight," Dearsley commented.

The loss marks the second straight year that Baldur was able to win the Senior AA provincial title, but the Mohawks prevented them from bringing home the league title. Dearsley observed that this is one factor that makes the league so great.

"There's a lot of respect back and forth," said Dearsley on the relationship between the two teams. "It's fun to be a part of."

Baldur took the provincial title earlier this month over the South West Baseball League's Boissevain Centennials in Hamiota. The Centennials and Hamiota Red Sox meet Wednesday night in Hamiota in the South West Baseball League final, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
