The Women of Distinction Awards Gala has been a long-standing annual event for the YWCA in Brandon.  Each year the gala honors women throughout the Westman Region who have contributed to their communities in unique and significant ways.

The annual gala was postponed from the September date due to Covid restrictions, and now the committee is ready to present the new date at a new venue: November18th at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (WMCA) in Brandon.

“We’re very excited to let everyone know that we’ve been able to reschedule the event,” shares Brandon YWCA Executive Director, Heather Symbalisty.  “We really wanted to celebrate the nominees and the award-winners this year!”

The committee received just over 26 nominees for the categories that celebrate women who are passionate in Arts/Culture & Design, Agriculture, Business Leadership, Community Leadership, Education, Healthy Living, Science & Technology, Young Women of Distinction (18-25 years old), Young Trailblazers (17 years and younger), and those who have dedicated a Lifetime of Achievement.

The event is hosted by the Brandon YWCA with all proceeds supporting a variety of YMCA-YWCA programs that touch the lives of women, youth and children in the City of Brandon, as well as the region as a whole. 

The change of venue has allowed more people to attend with the evening event now to be held at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (WMCA) in Brandon.

“We have sold about 170 tickets,” explains Symbalisty.  “We are going to honor those tickets sold and then open it up our ticket sales again, just because we’re now able to have around the 200-250 number of people now.  So, people can now make sure their family and close friends can come and celebrate their achievements.”

The 2021 Women of Distinction Awards will be held Thursday, November 18th at the WMCA  - Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (205 20th Street) with a reception in the foyer from 6pm - 7:30pm and awards presentation to begin at 7:30 pm.
