As new and returning heads of council and council members prepare for the upcoming election and a new term, discussions continue on how to build a stronger community through economic development strategies and projects.

The Crocus Country Economic Development Corporation is a partnership between the Municipality of Brenda-Waskada, the Municipality of Two Borders and the Town of Melita.  Regional EDO of Crocus Country EDC, Eric Forster, says the amalgamation of their municipal areas under the CCEDC umbrella has been a huge step forward.

"I think of the phrase, 'No man is an island'," shares Forster.  "It's really hard to ignore the fact that we have neighbors around here and we need to begin the process of working together.  I look down our main street and Melita is one of the service hubs for residents of Two Borders and residents from municipalities surrounding that. We've got business owners who reside in Two Borders, or Brenda-Waskada and the Town of Melita has people who live here, own businesses or work in Two Borders or Brenda-Waskada."

"We're not surrounded by 20-ft high wall," he adds. "We travel, we intermingle, and we all rely on each other to succeed."

Forster says the position of Economic Development Officer is an ever-changing job description, and after the October 26th municipal elections, local EDO's will have a better handle of what the next 4 years might look like.
