The Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks are into round three of the Tiger Hills Hockey League playoffs. Jason Bowles had a hat trick and Dillon Stonehouse and Drayton Shiner added two goals each as Miniota-Elkhorn defeated Hartney 10-3. Damon Bajus, Taylor Sanheim and Dustin Fisher also scored for the defending champion C-Hawks who swept the best-of-five West Division semifinal in three straight. Taylor Wells had a pair of goals for the Blues. Jesse Linner also scored for Hartney. The Minnedosa Bombers scored four unanswered third period goals en route to a 6-2 victory over the Gladstone Lakers. Mark Willis had a pair of goals for the Bombers who lead that East Division semifinal two games to one. Bryson Werbicki-Mallett, Ryan Heino, Joey Robinson and Shane Jury also scored for Minnedosa. Kobe Campbell and Jesse Toth replied for the Lakers. Game four goes Friday in Gladstone. 


The Vincent Massey Vikings, Neepawa Tigers and Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair Huskies are one win away from advancing to the Westman High School Hockey League semifinals. Josh Romanik scored four times as Massey downed Swan Valley 5-1; Brody Pollock had a goal and two assists as the Tigers beat Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur 7-1 and Gavin Pomeroy made 31 saves as the Huskies blanked Minnedosa/Erickson 4-0. Those were the first games in their respective best-of-three quarterfinals. The Major Pratt Trojans and Virden Golden Bears won their consolation quarterfinal openers. Tyler Huston had a hat trick in the Trojans 7-6 victory over Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains. Thane Hayward had two goals and two assists as the Golden Bears beat Sandy Bay 8-1. 


Three Virden Oil Capitals are Manitoba Junior Hockey League All-Stars. Josh Lehto and Nolan Chastko are Second Team All-Stars while Cole Slobodian is a Rookie Team All-Star. The West Division leading Oil Capitals, who lost back-to-back games to the Steinbach Pistons and OCN Blizzard last weekend, face the Flyers in Winkler Friday night.


Gabby Hughes scored the go-ahead goal with 4:06 remaining as Ottawa downed New York 4-2 in the lone PWHL game. Lexie Adzija added an empty-netter with four seconds left in regulation. 


Defender Shelina Zadorsky to help Canada blank Costa Rica 3-0 on Wednesday and remain perfect at the CONCACAF W Gold Cup with three wins and the top seeding heading into the weekend quarterfinals. Jordyn Huitema also scored for Canada, which led 2-0 after having 73 per cent possession in the first half at Houston's Shell Energy Stadium.
