Bryson Harder, Payne Wood, Liam Comaskey and Gavin Carver of the St. Paul’s Crusaders and Jeri Lafleche, Jewel Lafleche, Erin Nowicki and Dayna Marriott of College Jeanne-Sauve won the Provincial High School Golf Championships Friday at the Pleasant Valley golf course in Belmont. Brodie Cameron (93), Reed McGrath (99), Dexen Routledge (105) and Eric Berger (107) of the Virden Bears finished in 13th place. Jaedyn Hoemsen (123), Ceanna Mitchell (128) and Joelle Barkley (133) of the Bears were in eighth place.


The Southwest Cougars won their Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season opener Friday night in Morden. Jackson Kohut and Nate Robson did the goal scoring and Evan Svoboda made 24 saves as Southwest shaded Pembina Valley 2-1. The Cougars play their home opener tonight against the Hawks in Souris.


The Westman Wildcats play their season opener tonight against the defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Winnipeg Ice at Hockey for All Centre.


Roux Bazin and Trevor Hunt scored third period power play goals and Eric Reid made 29 saves in the Virden Oil Capitals 3-0 victory over the Selkirk Steelers at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Naton Miller also scored for the Caps who face the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo tonight.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 5-2 decision to the Warriors in Moose Jaw. Jayden Wiens and Nolan Flamand did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Brandon netminder Carson Bjarnason made 31 saves in his season debut after returning from Philadelphia Flyers training camp.


The Winnipeg Jets lost 3-1 to the Senators in Ottawa. Jansen Harkins had the lone goal for the Jets who will play their fifth of six exhibition games Monday when they meet the Flames in Calgary.


Sergio Castillo kicked six field goals and Brady Oliveira ran for 169 yards and caught a touchdown pass from Zach Collaros in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 31-21 victory over the Toronto Argonauts at IG Field. The Bombers and B.C. Lions are 11-4 and tied for first place in the CFL West. The Lions, who host Winnipeg next Friday, beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 33-26.


Matt Dunstone will face Mike McEwen and Reid Carruthers will meet Brad Gushue in the men’s Final 4 at the 2023 PointsBet Invitational in Oakville, Ontario. Kerri Einarson will take on Kaitlyn Lawes and Rachel Homan will meet Christina Black in the women’s Final 4. Gushue defeated Ryan Wiebe 8-4 and Black eliminated Jennifer Jones 9-6 in the Elite 8.
