The Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders will face the Carman Cougars and the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats meet the Major Pratt Trojans in today's semifinals of the Provincial AA High School Hockey Championship in Boissevain. The host Broncos went 0-2 in the round robin. Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada felll 6-3 to Killarney/Wawanesa and 4-1 to Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur. The Broncos will take on the Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors at 11 a.m. in the consolation final.


Brett Melnyk had a hat trick and Drayson Sheridan had a goal and five assists as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair downed Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Hartney 16-0 in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game. Gavin Pomeroy made 27 saves in recording the shutout.


Round two of the Tiger Hills Hockey League playoffs got underway Thursday night. Cam Whyte had two goals and two assists as Virden downed Rivers 6-3 in game one of their best-of-five West Division semifinal. Tanner Hepp, Ty Lewis, Jeremy Johnson and Colin Cook also scored for the Oil Kings. Alastair McFadden, Gerald Kuculym and Josh Belcher replied for the Jets.


Matteo Michels scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Raiders 3-2 in Prince Albert. Jayden Wiens also scored for Brandon while Carson Bjarnason made 31 saves. The Wheat Kings face the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Blades tonight in Saskatoon. 


It's day two of the Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Carman. Jace Freeman of Virden will meet either Jordon McDonald of Assiniboine Memorial or Rylan Campbell of West St. Paul in the A event qualifier tonight at 7:45 p.m. Freeman defeated Nash Sugden of Morden 6-5 and Zach Norris of Morris 6-3 on Thursday. Gina Giasson of Killarney lost her opener 10-4 to Shaela Hayward of Carman and will face Rylie Buchalter of the Heather at 8:30 a.m. in an B event game.


All four Manitoba teams have qualified for the playoffs at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary. Jennifer Jones will meet Selena Sturmay of Alberta and four-time defending champion Kerri Einarson will take on Rachel Homan of Ontario in the 1 vs 2 Qualifiers at 1 p.m. The winners will go directly to the Page Playoff 1-2 game Saturday night while the losers meet the third-place pool finishers Kate Cameron and Kaitlyn Lawes tonight at 7 p.m. in the 3 vs 4 qualifiers.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed three American players – offensive tackle Kendall Randolph, defensive tackle Kenny Randall and linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel. Randolph joins the Blue Bombers after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks last May and suiting up for three preseason games before his release. Randall returns to the Blue Bombers after attending training camp with the club in 2022 and spending last year with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL where he played in 10 games and registered 2.5 quarterback sacks and 16 tackles. Gemmel comes to Winnipeg after playing in seven games last season with the Orlando Guardians of the XFL.
