While the Colorado low that is hanging over Southern Manitoba has created some less than ideal driving conditions it’s a welcome sight for snowmobilers.

Coming of last year’s bountiful snow filled winter snowmobile owners are hoping for something similar this winter.

Allan Sampson is President of the Tri Lake Trail Busters Club, and he says they maintain 450 kilometres of trail system that passes through several Westman communities. “Before this week’s snowfall event we had no snow. With what they’re calling for we hope to get enough and get out there and get started.”

“We need about eight to 10 inches to get started and the groomers on the trail.”

Tri Lake has trails that pass through Wawanesa, Glenboro, Baldur, Belmont, Ninette and Killarney.

“We run two grooming machines, and everything is ready to go and hopefully the weather cooperates,” said Allan Sampson.

He adds there’s always new people getting into snowmobiling but then there’s always people on the other end who decide to quit sledding.

“We have warming huts along the trail and for signage we wait for the first snowfall, and we’ll make piles and get the stop signs in and as we go around grooming, we’ll get the rest of the signs up.”

Gord Weidenhamer with the Southwest Snow Trackers says their club is also hoping this week’s snow is enough to get groomers out on their trail system that covers 350 kilometres.
