The following is the RCMP report to March 6, 2024.  This reporting period, police responded to the following calls for service.

 

-  24 traffic violations

-  10 provincial statute (Mental Health Act, Fire Prevention Act, Coroner's Act, 911 Act)

-  17 common police activities (alarms, suspicious persons/vehicles, assistance to general public)

-  14 crimes against property

-  4 other criminal code

-  5 crimes against persons

-  1 traffic accidents

-  0 impaired driving investigation

-  1 drug enforcement

 

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Just a reminder that RCMP DO NOT do child abuse and adult abuse registry checks.  RCMP is responsible for criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks.  You require a vulnerable sector check if you are in a position of trust. You must present to the detachment when applying for a vulnerable sector check. 

Position of Trust means a paid or voluntary position dealing with vulnerable people. Vulnerable people may include children, youth, the elderly, people with physical, developmental, emotional, social, or other disabilities, people who are addicted or dependent on addictive substances, and people who have been the victim of a crime or an accident.

Applicants who require a Vulnerable Sector Check from their organization must present themselves in person and provide written consent in order for the checks to be conducted.

Proper identification must be produced and recorded on the application: a government issued photo identification for the Primary Document, and a secondary document which verifies the Primary identification.

YOUTH CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

Criminal record checks cannot be done on youth unless working in Government. It has been established that non-provincially or municipally run summer camps and pools, public/private schools including colleges/universities are not government employers.

 

February 21, 2024

Police received a report under the controlled drugs and substance act. The complainant did not want an investigation, just wanted RCMP to be aware.

Police received a call from a complainant looking for estranged family members. Police are not able to provide personal information. Officers followed up with the complainant and the file was concluded.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Killarney. There was insufficient information to proceed.

 

February 22, 2024

Police received a report of a fraud in the RM of Boissevain-Morton. The complainant was contacted via email by someone claiming to be the Department of Justice stating there was a prosecution warrant out for their arrest. No money was lost. Police followed up with the complainant; however, there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the RM of Grasslands. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Deloraine. Members followed up with the complainant and the file was concluded.

Police received an assist general public file. The situation was not a police matter.

 

February 23, 2024

Police received a report of a fraud in Deloraine. No money was lost. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

 

February 24, 2024

Police responded to a call under the 911 act in Killarney. The matter was concluded.

Police responded to an animal call in the RM of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. A dog was running around on the road and the complainant was concerned for its safety. Police attended; however, the dog was gone upon arrival.

 

February 25, 2024

Police responded to a wellbeing check on a male that was laying down in the ditch in the RM of Boissevain-Morton. The male was located safe and was not injured.

 

February 26,2024

Police received a report of mischief in Killarney. Members attempted to follow up with complainant however were unsuccessful.

Police responded to a call under the family law act in the RM of Prairie Lakes.

 

February 27, 2024

Police responded to a call under the Mental Health Act in Killarney.

Police received a call for assistance in Waskada. Members followed up with the caller and determined the situation was not a police matter.

Police received a report of identity fraud in Ninette. The caller had received a suspicious phone call stating her bank account was hacked and was told to call Microsoft. The suspects also stated they had remote access to the complainant's computer. Members followed up with the caller for further details. The investigation is ongoing.

Police received an animal call in Boissevain. Members followed up with the complainant and directed them with a phone number to call as the situation was not a police matter.

Police responded to a wellbeing check in Killarney. When police arrived, the subject assaulted police. The matter is being investigated. A male was arrested and released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

 

February 28, 2024

Police responded to a 911 call in Cartwright for a house fire. While on route, police were told they could stand down. The fire was deemed electrical.

Police received a report of identity theft in Ninette. Members followed up however there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of uttering threats against a person in Killarney. The matter is under investigation.

Police responded to a call under the Mental Health Act in Boissevain.

Police received a report of fraud in Boissevain. The complainant had received a text message claiming to be from Canada Post and directed the complainant to follow a link and enter their personal information. No personal information was provided. Members followed up with the complainant but there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of assault in the RM of Cartwright-Roblin. Police attended and arrested a female. She was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

 

February 29, 2024

Police responded to a wellbeing check in Waskada. All parties were located safe.

Police received a report of mischief in Cartwright. Windows to a building had been broken and someone had entered the building; however, it did not appear anything inside was stolen or broken. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of a historical assault in Boissevain. The matter is under investigation.

 

March 1, 2024

Police completed a curfew check in Killarney. The male was not home as required by his release order. The matter is under investigation. 

Police responded to an assault in Ninette. Upon arrival, police determined there was no assault and it was a miscommunication; however, a female was found disturbing the peace. Police spoke with the female and the situation was resolved.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Killarney. The vehicle was gone upon arrival.

Police responded to a 911 call in Boissevain for an assault. Upon arrival, police spoke with both parties and it was determined that an assault had not taken place. No charges were laid in the matter.

Police received a report under the family law act in Boissevain.

 

March 2, 2024

While on patrol in Killarney, Police located a group of males walking down the street with open liquor. The liquor was confiscated by police. No charges were laid.

Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle in Killarney parked on the complainant's property. Police followed up with the registered owner.

Police responded to a 911 call regarding an unwanted person in a residence in Boissevain. Police attended the residence however the unwanted person had already left.

Police responded to a 911 call in Killarney for Disturbing the Police. When members arrived, the complainant declined to proceed or provide further details.

 

March 4, 2024

Police received a report of a fraud in the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton. The matter is under investigation.

 

March 5, 2024

Police received a 911 hang up call in the RM of Prairie Lakes. Members followed up with the caller and determined police were not required.

Police received a report of mischief in the RM of Cartwright-Roblin. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report regarding fake accounts on social media. The situation was not a police matter; however, the public is encouraged to report these accounts to the social media platforms to have them disabled.   

 

Reminder:  It is important to report ALL thefts, stolen or lost property to police in a timely fashion so that it can be followed upon by police.

RCMP would like to remind the public to keep their vehicle doors locked at night and not to leave keys inside.

Police continue to remind residents to never provide personal information such as birth dates, SIN numbers, credit card numbers, or e-mail address to parties you do not know.  If you feel that you have been contacted by a fraudulent source, please contact police or Canadian Anti-Fraud Center immediately for further instructions on what you can do.  Canadian Anti-fraud Centre can be reached directly at 1-888-495-8501; however, also report same to the local detachment.

Boissevain Detachment business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
