Work has been underway on a new daycare in Minto since the spring of 2022 and that work is down to last few weeks.

The Minto Mustang Mini Corral board is spending just under $300,000 to have the former Silver Saddle restaurant converted into the new daycare.

Daycare board member Stephanie Robertson hopes they can open the doors the last week of October. “We started work in the spring and we’re very, very close to having the project completed. We should be moved in and functioning out of there over the next two weeks.”

The new building will be twice the square footage and will allow the daycare to look after more children. It will have more of an open concept and newer things in the daycare. Stephanie Robertson adds there’s areal need for an improved daycare in the community.

“We’ll have room for 20 preschoolers and four infants and right now we have room for 16 preschoolers and four infants. There is a demand for our daycare so when we open we will be full. There are lots of young families locating or relocating back to Minto and we also serve surrounding communities with part-time spots.”

The group has been busy fund raising and Robertson says it will be paid for when they open.

“We hope to open the doors on the new daycare October 24th.”
