We have a feeling many of you have either read one of her books or saw her on TV. Mairlyn Smith is a Canadian Home Economist and Author who has spent her entire career promoting healthy eating with a particular focus on canola oil usage. She was in Winnipeg yesterday to accept the 2016 Canola Excellence Award from the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, and joined us today on the Morning Show.

Farm Broadcast Amy-Jean MacLean spoke with her about the recognition, and asked her whether when she first started promoting canola oil use in the 70's if she was developing her own recipes.

Amy-Jean asked Mairlyn how she found herself on the path to becoming a Home Economist, and ultimately one of the most well known food personalities in Canada.

Smith has authored multiple best-selling cookbooks, all profiling canola oil. Her seventh and latest, Homegrown: Celebrating the Canadian Foods We Grow, Raise and Produce is a collaborative effort with the Ontario Home Economics Association. It is a shout out to, and celebration of, Canadian farmers, the two per cent that feed us all.
