The new owner of the Killarney Auction Mart is excited about taking over the operation.

Allan Munroe has been the manager of the auction mart since August 2011 and feels he knows the business well.

"It goes right back to 4H when I was a kid and growing up on a farm and then, you know, I've been involved in the purebred industry farming full-time feeding cattle and cow/calf and have been on the marketing end since 2004 with a different auction mart, so I have a pretty good idea of what's happening."

Munroe's first sale as the new owner was February 2nd and he explained why the volume of cattle coming through his operation has increased significantly over the last while.

"One is that a number of auction marts have closed in Manitoba and the other reason is, right now, the auction system is putting more money into farmers pockets. A lot of the cattle that have been sold out of the yards the last number of years are coming to the ring because its easier to get them sorted properly in front of a full row of buyers and they are seeing more money in their pockets."

Munroe was asked if he is planning any big changes for the Killarney Auction Mart.

"Basically it's business as usual and like every business it's onward and upward in trying to small improvements here and there and just continue to do a better job and do the best we can," said Munroe.
