The Winnipeg Jets modest two-game winning streak came to an end Monday night at MTS Centre.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 36 shots as the Colorado Avalanche defeated Winnipeg 2-1.
"I thought we had a good start," said Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck who faced 34 shots. "It's hard to put my tongue on what is the difference. I thought we played pretty good. I thought we were blocking a lot of shots, and we were paying the price. I guess this is just how hockey goes."
The Avalanche did their damage in the second period.
Carl Soderberg scored 76 seconds into the middle frame banging home a rebound past Hellebuyck and Jarome Iginla tallied a power play marker with 18 seconds remaining.
Iginla's 602nd goal of his career moved him past Jari Kurri and into 18th place on the NHL's all-time list.
Joel Armia scored Winnipeg's lone goal with 42 seconds left in regulation and Hellebucyk on the bench for an extra attacker.
The Jets (21-21-3) six-game homestand continues Thursday night against the Nashville Predators.
