Tory MP Ted Falk

A Conservative Association in rural Manitoba gave a good indication last week of what we can expect in the federal election that is expected in October. Provencher MP Ted Falk, addressing the Riding Association's annual meeting, spoke to supporters about how the Conservatives will set them selves apart from the other parties to give voters a clear option.

"There are a lot of things in which we'll differentiate our platform, our program and our ideology from the other parties. Certainly our party believes in keeping taxes low, in giving mom and dad as much money as possible to raise their children in whatever manner they see best. We also believe in making sure that our seniors have as much money as possible left in their pockets as well."

Falk says the Conservative Government has created 1.2 million net new jobs since 2008 while Canada has the strongest economy among the G7 nations. He adds the Conservatives have also reduced taxes on more than 160 occasions during their term in government.

Meanwhile, Falk was taken aback when St. Boniface Conservative MP Shelly Glover, the senior Conservative MP for Manitoba, announced that she would not seek re-election.

"I was saddened and surprised that Minister Glover announced that she would not be seeking re-election. She's a very hard-working Minister. She's done a tremendous job for the constituents of St. Boniface. Shelly will leave a big hole in St. Boniface for the Conservative Party. I'm sure there are very capable individuals in that riding that could step forward and be very good candidates and good Members of Parliament. But Shelly certainly will leave a significant hole."
