The Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit makes a stop in Morris July 2nd and 3rd.

It's the first stop on this year's tour which includes races in Miami, Holland, Glenboro and Killarney.

"It looks like a really good weekend," said President of the Manitoba Harness Horsemen, Mike Williams.  "The big thing about Morris this year is they are really working with us and it is going to be free admission on Saturday and Sunday.  We are going to have seven races on Saturday, seven races on Sunday. Looks like it's going to be a warm hot day and the fields look great! We got some great competition with horses coming out from Alberta to race here."

Williams noted this is the third year in a row they've had harness racing in Morris.

Meanwhile, he shared where drivers all come from to compete.

"Most of our drivers are from rural Manitoba," explained Williams.  "We do have one that just finished coming out in the driver championships in Alberta that lives in Winnipeg.  He is the reigning champ and has been the top driver we've had on the circuit the last three years.  We also have drivers from Saskatchewan.  We've got a range of driver's throughout the province that come and race here."

Williams stated he is looking forward to Sunday's races; adding he expects five of Canada's fastest horses to compete during "The Open" event.

He added the Morris racing facility is in great shape.

"I would say it is the best track we have on the circuit," said Williams. "It is probably the safest track, it is so wide.  You get to see some really exciting racing in and out on the move early. The grand stand is absolutely huge and it is a safe facility.  We were out there last night with the tractor working the track and it's in really nice shape. I think the members of the Ag Society do a really nice job."

He noted the circuit experiences lots of rural support already; however, they would like to see more people attend races from the Winnipeg region.

The tour will return to Morris for a second time this summer on August 13th and 14th.
