The board that runs Prairie Mountain Health is expected to increase in size over the next few months.

The Province of Manitoba unveiled the five new health boards this week and most had the maximum 12 board members. Prairie Mountain only has nine.

“Prairie Mountain was a little bit smaller and there are some vacancies and it is certainly our intention to fill those vacancies going into the new year” said Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen.

The Province is determined to ensure that all boards have the right mix of people on a board. “It's not just about finding the top, most qualified people and ranking them one to 12 because it is important to have that good mix on a board.”

Goertzen stressed for the sake of a few months it is worth continuing to look for the right people to fill those vacancies.

Prairie Mountain Health's new board chair Catheryn Pedersen expects the board will meet later this month.
