Stunning Northern Lights captured by photographer north of Morden
Viktor Elias had the opportunity to capture on camera A stunning Northern Lights display which happened earlier this week in the sky over the Pembina Valley. "The morning of September 29th, about 5:50am, I went outside, the northern skies were ablaze with northern lights," shared the photographer in an email to PembinaValleyOnline who shot the pictures in a rural area north of Morden. "I have been photographing Northern Lights just this Summer." His primary camera is a GoPro Hero 13, which is what he used to take these photos. He says it's great for beginners and simple to use. "These are the best I have taken," noted Elias. According to Space.com Tuesday morning's display was "stronger-than-expected", after initially only a slight chance of minor G1 storming was forecast according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. "A series of geomagnetic storms reaching G1 (Minor) and briefly G3 (Strong) levels were triggered by a sustained period of southward-pointing magnetic fields in the solar wind, which allowed energy from the sun to couple efficiently with Earth's magnetic field," explained the article, here.
