Welcome to winter, Southern Manitoba. Most of the area has received some snow since yesterday afternoon.  The arrival of the white stuff has made for slippery conditions on streets and highways.  Brian Smiley, of Manitoba Public Insurance, urges you to drive to road conditions, adding posted speed limits are for ideal conditions.  He says slowing down is key when road conditions deteriorate.

So far, Smiley hasn't seen a spike in activity at MPI, but he knows with more snow on the way, it's likely he will.  He recommends staying off the roads during heavy snowfall, if possible.  Smiley says even now, the roads are in less then perfect shape, which is a reminder to be watchful behind the wheel.

Manitoba Highways and Transportation is reporting that many roads in the Southwest remain snow covered and slippery.
