Thursday night Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner MC'd a banquet which featured a keynote presentation by Clint and Joanie Malarchuk.

Clint is a former NHL goalie who played professionally for 15 years including stops with the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres.

He's most well known for a terrible incident which happened on the ice March 22nd, 1989 when a player crashed hard into the net, and his skate cut Clint's jugular vein... nearly killing him.

Clint has also suffered through a lifetime of mental illness including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which was later determined to have been brought on by the neck incident.

Years of suffering in silence, and his wife Joanie living through it all with him, Clint attempted to end his life on October 7th, 2008 by shooting himself.... but lived.

His battle with mental illness, and Joanie's side of the story, were shared with those in attendance.

Chris began our conversation with the moment in Clint's life he felt something was not quite right.

We now move ahead to October 2008 when Clint attempted to take his life, and Chris asking him what had been happening to him in the days leading up to that nearly fatal decision.

Clint and Joanie Malarchuk were the keynote speakers at the 2016 Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce P.W. Enns Business Awards Gala.

Their story of living through mental illness is chronicled in Clint's memoir ”The Crazy Game: How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond”.
