The Westman Wildcats face the Pembina Valley Hawks tonight (7:30 p.m.) in Hartney in game one of their best-of-five Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League quarterfinal. The second place Wildcats won nine of 11 league games after Christmas. 


The Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors and Virden Golde Bears were winners in the Westman High School Hockey League Tuesday night. Colby Pentecost scored twice and Grady Burton had three assists as the Chancellors downed the Sandy Bay Badgers 7-1. Dexen Routledge had a hat trick and Coleton Beaty had four helpers as the Golden Bears defeated the Major Pratt Trojans 10-1.


Gabriel Vilardi scored a pair of power play goals and Laurent Brossoit made 36 saves in the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre. Mason Appleton, Sean Monahan, Nino Niederreiter and Kyle Connor with his 20th of the season also scored for the Jets who were coming off a 6-3 loss to the Flames in Calgary on Monday. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Justin Courtney. Courtney has spent most of his career in the New York Mets’ organization, with a brief stint in the Los Angeles Angels’ system. He finished the 2023 campaign with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League – a Major League Baseball Partner League. The 27-year-old Bangor, Maine native was signed by the Angels as a free agent after five seasons at the University of Maine (Orono, Maine). Courtney began the 2023 season with the Class-AAA Syracuse Mets of the International League and becomes the sixth player on the Goldeyes’ roster with experience at the Class-AAA level.
