Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice and Sarah Nurse had a goal and an assist as the Canadian women's hockey team edged the United States 3-2 in the gold medal game at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Ann-Renee Desbiens made 38 saves. It's the second Olympic gold medal for Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque and first for Deloraine's Ashton Bell and Brandon's Kristen Campbell. In curling - Jennifer Jones won her round robin finale 10-4 over Madeleine Dupoint of Denmark. Jones, Eve Muirhead of Great Britain and Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan finished tied for third place with identical 5-4 records. The results of the draw-shot challenge - an average of the accuracy of each team’s last stone draw in every match - put Great Britain in third place, Japan fourth and Jones finished in fifth place and out of medal contention. Brad Gushue lost 5-3 to Niklas Edin of Sweden in the semifinals. Marielle Thompson of Whistler won silver in women's ski cross. Canada's medal count is 20 with four gold, five silver and 11 bronze. 


Braden Gillies and Brad Marshall had two goals each as Neepawa downed Wawanesa 7-5 in game one of their best-of-three East Division quarterfinal. Benoit Mowbray, Lance Nugent and Kyle McDonald also scored for the Farmers. Daylon Creasy chipped in with three assists. Kain Shearer, Brock Sutherland, Brian Harris, Kyle Johnston and Jackson Wallis replied for the Jets.
 

Westman High School Hockey League - Austin Gordon had a hat trick and Griffin Albrecht made 34 saves as the Boissevain/Souris Broncos downed the Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson Renegades 4-1; Keiran DeBaker scored his third goal of the game 32 seconds into overtime to lift the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders past the Neepawa Tigers 5-4; Bobby Orr-Roulette scored the only goal of the shootout as the Sandy Bay Badgers edged the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats 4-3; Owen Chubka stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Dauphin Clippers blanked the Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn Falcons 2-0 and Luke DeCorby, Seth Falkevitch and Colbey Reichmuth had two goals each in the Major Pratt Trojans 9-2 victory over the Grand Plains Raiders.


Grace Glover made 15 saves in recording the shutout as the Westman Wildcats blanked the Central Plains Capitals 5-0 in Hartney in game one of their Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League best-of-five quarterfinal. Makenna Beard had a pair of goals for the Wildcats while the rest went to Brooklyn Franklin, Karlyn Gudz and Hayley Kolosky. Game two goes Friday night in Portage. 


Chad Nychuk scored twice and Ethan Kruger made 25 saves as Brandon downed Medicine Hat 4-1. Riley Ginell and Nate Danielson also scored for the Wheat Kings. The Canadian Hockey League announced Wednesday new dates for the 2022 Memorial Cup to be held in Saint John, N.B., beginning Monday, June 20th as the host Sea Dogs face off against the Ontario Hockey League playoff champion. The championship game is set for Wednesday, June 29th.


Mark Scheifele recorded his fifth career hat trick and captain Blake Wheeler had four assists as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Minnesota Wild 6-3. Cole Perfetti, Kyle Connor and Paul Stastny also scored for the Jets. Winnipeg netminder Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves.
