April is the month of Daffodils, raising awareness and showing support for those fighting the battle of cancer.

Erin Crawford, Director of Public Issues with the Canadian Cancer Society says daffodils are a symbol of hope and were first associated with cancer in the early 1900's after Lady Eaton decorated a cancer fundraiser with the flower.

"When you see those daffodil pins you can see how many people have really been touched by cancer.  In a lot of those cases it will be touched by cancer personally or a friend or family member and in some cases it's somebody who might not have their own cancer experience but want to show support for people who do."

Crawford says more than half of people are going to have a cancer experience, so another part of Daffodil Month is to make the public more aware of support programs.  She notes those who access support programs find it incredibly helpful.
