Thursday on the Morning Show we heard from a couple of players and the coach of an Altona area baseball team that travelled to Cuba at the end of February with the Canada-Cuba Goodwill Tour group. The group helps organizes excursions to the country, and gives team's an opportunity to not only play baseball against Cuban teams, but offers a chance for them to bring along equipment and school supplies to give to families in need.

Coach Matt Giesbrecht joined us in studio to share how the experience came to be, what the group of 47 parents, playesr and coaches did, and what everyone garnered from it.

The team of 11 young players faced a number of Cuban teams, and also had the chance to rest and relax, but also helped distribute more than a dozen bags of baseball equipment and school supplies brought from Canada to families in need.

12 year old team members William Sawatzky and Ethan Giesbrecht spoke to us about their time down south, with Ethan beginning our conversation with what was his favourite part of the trip and why?

William's father Al also joined us in studio to share a parents perspective of what the experience was like.

Matt says they would absolutely do something like this again, and encourages all baseball teams to consider this opportunity.

Matt wanted us to make sure we passed along his thank you to Boston Red Sox Baseball Hall of Famer Bill Lee who travelled with the group all week, and provided immeasurable mentorship to the players, coaches and parents. He also wanted us to make note of the team's translator Yosel, who was phenomenal to work with.
