Baldur Minor Ball is working to complete a major upgrade at one of their main diamonds.

The $90,000 project started in 2022 and plans are to have the work completed in the spring of 2024.

Darrick Jones. with Baldur Minor Ball. says the diamond is home to a number of age group teams. “We applied and got some funding and we’ve had great support from grants and local organizations and individuals.”

“Last fall we did the landscaping, installed the red clay and had the fencing installed. We’ve still got the dugouts to install and some work with the batting cages,” he adds.

The group is also looking into things like some potential seating.

“This is our main diamond for minor ball and that covers from Rally cap age group all the way to 13 and under and all the girls’ softball. We’ve even tried to extend it to 15 and under games, so it’s going to be our main diamond for all those groups.”

Jones hopes they can pour the concrete for the dugouts this summer or fall and complete the work in the spring or early summer of 2024.

Baldur has long been known as a community with a strong baseball program and Darrick Jones says the sport remains strong in the community.

“Ball is actually growing again. We had a few years where things were a little lean, but we’ve had a great influx of young groups here again. In both rally caps and 9 and under we had a program here again this year. We also had a 13 and under team which sometimes we’ve had to go out of town for,” explains Jones.

“The numbers are definitely going in the right direction for us,” he adds.
