The president of Cereals Canada is pleased with how the 2016 Canadian Wheat New Crop Missions have been going so far.

Cam Dahl says that groups have recently returned home from south America and Asia, while others are getting ready to head out to North Africa, Europe and South Asia.

Dahl notes Canada is the only country that sends the entire value chain out on these new crop missions, including farmers.

"We do have producers on all of the missions and it does start with the farmer and they're there to answer questions about how they grow their crop and why they grow their crop and why they're choosing to grow more peas and lentils and those are important conversations for customers."

Fusarium was a big challenge for Canadian farmers this year, however Dahl notes that over 55 per cent of the hard red spring crop was still graded number one or number two.

He adds durum is going to be a bit more of difficult conversation due to the higher amounts of fusarium.
