WestJet has announced that two more weekly flights have been added between Brandon and Calgary starting this winter.

This brings the total number of weekly flights from 10 to 12, a 20 per cent increase.

Brandon's flights are all operated by WestJet Encore, a regional fleet made up of 40 Canadian-made aircraft.

Brandon MP Larry Maguire talked about how WestJet Encore President Charles Duncan and Public Relations Robert Palmer feel about this addition.

“They're very excited about the activity here to the point where they're expanding the use of the airport here by two more flights starting in December 1, there will be 12 flights a week coming     and going from Brandon,” he said.

Mayor Rick Chrest adds that Westman residents have been asking for convenient air travel options and is confident they will fill the extra seats this upcoming winter. He also believes the area can take on additional flight capacity in the future.

Since 2013, more than 3,000 flights have operated in and out of the Brandon Municipal Airport.

Earlier this month, Premier Brian Pallister, Mayor Rick Chrest, Brandon MP Larry Maguire, and WestJet Encore President Charles Duncan were in Brandon to celebrate the completion of Brandon's Airport expansion project.
