The RM of Victoria's looking to boost economic development in the region. They're subscribing to Townfolio, an online service that collects data on a region's demographics, resources, and services, as well as providing a profile on the location. Reeve Harold Purkess says while all that information is available online, using this free online service will ensure that data's easily accessible.

"We think it will be a great advantage for us. A lot of this information is asked for on a fairly regular basis. This will have it all in one spot, people looking for information on the community can look in one place, without having to check two or three sites."

Purkess hopes this can help promote further development with Victoria, as the website can also post which businesses they're in need of, in order to spawn interest among potential investors. One area he hopes to see grow is the agricultural sector. Purkess says they want to see that sector elevated beyond production.

"We would really like to see something in the agricultural value-added sector. We have prime agricultural land here, pretty much any imaginable that can be grown in Manitoba is grown here. We'd like to see some value added to some of those crops, instead of being shipped out in raw form."

Purkess notes there are two forms of the service available. The free service which sees essential economic data collected, and another service which includes much more data, but also comes with a monthly fee. He says Council's decided to start with the free service, and will see how well it works.
