The Canada Revenue Agency phone scam is back with a vengeance in southern Manitoba.

Police say they received numerous complaints of the fraud.

This scam involves the caller impersonating someone from the IRS or CRA, making false claims that you are under investigation for tax evasion, or fraud. At times, the caller has even gone so far as to say there is a warrant out for your arrest.

Police are reminding the public, particularly now that it's tax season, that if you do owe the Canada Revenue Agency, you will receive notice through the mail. The C.R.A. will never contact you via telephone. Police also remind the public not to give out any financial or personal information over the phone unless you have initiated the call.

If you receive a call of this nature, protect yourself by hanging up. After you hang up, you may also register the call on line with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
