With the severe wind in Southern Manitoba, many trees have been cracked or broken. There were power outages in parts of Southern Manitoba.

Manitoba Hydro Spokesperson Scott Powell says they've been getting calls of widespread outages from areas all over southern Manitoba.

"We've got sporadic outages on a wide spread geographic basis, right across southern Manitoba ranging from Dauphin, Brandon, right through the Interlake and heading out to Steinbach and some other regions. Right across the south the high winds are causing issues with power lines, we're having a lot of issues with trees breaking and falling into lines. As well as some other issues."

Powell knows it's a holiday, but says they're still staffed to handle the situation.

"We have people, we have our on call rotation people are coming in as required. In order to make sure we can get these outages restored as quickly as possible. But with the large volume of calls we're getting it's definitely taking some time."

Powell adds they're working as quickly as they can, and he doesn't have a time of completion for the repairs.

Things are looking okay so far in Delta Manitoba, despite the high winds throughput the province.

Delta Homeowners Association President Don Clarkson says the lake's definitely rocking and rolling, but the geotube has been doing a great job keeping the waves back.  Clarkson says he's heard of a few trees down in the area, but nothing of serious concern as of yet.

The high winds should subside this evening, as we get back into sunny and double digit temperatures tomorrow.
