Farmers in southwest Manitoba are hoping for lots of heat in the next few weeks.

Russell Thiessen and his dad farm about 1,100 acres in the Griswold area, including wheat, sunflowers, oats, and barley.

Russell likes what he sees out in the field.

"Right now, we're looking really good," said Thiessen. "Things are progressing very nicely. Wheat's just starting to head out nicely, and sunflowers are growing well, they're enjoying the heat and putting on size. Moisture-wise I think we're just about perfect...We could use some sunshine and some nice weather right now."

Thiessen is hoping for lower humidity to help keep away rust and fungus.

He adds now with herbicide spraying complete, it's just a matter of waiting for the crops to mature.
