Updated 11:15pm, July 20, 2016 - Environment Canada is confirming that multiple tornadoes touched down during Wednesday night's storm that ripped through southern Manitoba.

Meteorologist Terri Lang says a tornado touched down briefly near Hartney, noting it was likely a land spout. There were also reports of tornadoes touching down in the Long Plain and Rossendale areas, although Lang notes this was likely the same system. There were reports of buildings being damaged in the area.

Golf ball to tennis ball size hail was reported in the Melita area, while Brandon also received some marble to golf ball size hail. Some areas of the city received about 44 millimetres of rain in addition to 85 km/h hour winds.

Lang says conditions are expected to stabilize over the next few days, with warm, dry weather in the forecast.

Updated 6:00 pm, July 20, 2016 - Thunderstorm warnings are in effect for much of southwest Manitoba. A tornando watch was also issued for much of the region.

There have been multiple reports of hail and funnel clouds on social media.

Just before 6pm Wednesday night, Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a line of very dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to baseball size hail and torrential rain.

A large line of severe thunderstorms has formed from Melita northeast to Brandon and Neepawa. Cells on the line are moving eastwards at 40 km/h. Extremely large hail and flooding rains are possible with these thunderstorms.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Extremely large hail can smash windows, destroy property and vehicles and cause life-threatening injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.

Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
