RCMP are seeing an increase in the amount of unregistered vehicles on the roads. Statistics show RCMP have pulled over approximately 650 vehicles so far this year, which aren't registered, compared to 471 in all of 2014.

"I find it's being attributed to the fact that we (RCMP) are doing different check stops at different times of the year now. A lot of people think we only do check stops for the long weekends in the summer, or just for holidays, and we are just out there hunting impaired drivers," explained RCMP constable Paul Human. "Don't get me wrong we are hunting impaired drivers all of the time. We are running into a lot of other things, like people driving unregistered vehicles. Really it comes down to the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle to make sure that vehicle is registered, because you would feel just horrible if you got into an accident and you didn't have any coverage."

Human noted your vehicle has licence plate stickers for a reason, and should help act as a reminder for you to pay for your insurance in a timely fashion.

Driving an unregistered vehicle won't only cost you some of your hard earned money, but you will be walking home as well.

"The actual dollar amount, I believe is around $900 if you do not have your vehicle registered it needs to be towed," explained Human. "So you are going to have to be paying a towing fee, and for how ever long your vehicle is impounded, you are going to have to pay a impound fee."

According to Manitoba Public Insurance, driving without insurance on your vehicle will cost you two demerit points.
