The Shilo Country Club is preparing to host the 9th Annual BIRT Cup Celebrity Pro Am golf tournament on Friday.

BIRT stands for Basics, Intensity, Respect, and Team.

The event raises money for the Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex in Brandon, in addition to other local causes.

Tournament President Scott Hlady explains why they chose to donate funds to the Ashley Neufled Softball Complex.

“With the tragic loss of Ashley and what they're trying to do here with this complex, to give back to the city, and give local softball players an opportunity to play on high-calibre diamonds, we felt that that was extremely important to have some local support from other than the major groups that are supporting it.”

Hlady says about 200 golfers will take part in Friday's event, adding he's hoping to see the tournament raise about $15,000.

Some of the celebrities taking part include comedian Big Daddy Tazz, along with Ryan Pulock of the New York Islanders.

The shotgun start for the BIRT Cup will begin at 12:30 at the Shilo Country Club.
