The Province of Manitoba continues to tout the fact there are more nurses working in Manitoba than ever before.

Premier Greg Selinger said there are over 3,400 more nurses working in the province now than when the NDP took office in 1999 and a record number of nurses are by trained.

That, however, is little consolation for rural health facilities struggling to fill vacant nurse positions.

"I think the issue is more about where the nurses locate," said Selinger. "So, we continue to recruit and provide incentives for nurses to locate outside of Winnipeg in rural Manitoba which has a high quality of life."
