Following its annual general meeting, Prairie Partners Inc. in Boissevain is looking to expand its volunteer program.

The organization offers day programs and housing for people living with intellectual disabilities.

"(To) further promote community inclusion, as well as just to bring that sense of community back into our organization, and bring people into our programming a bit more, and even breaking down more barriers," said Executive Director Misheyla Iwasiuk. "We find that those natural friendships and relationships are lacking a little bit so we've invited people to come and volunteer."

Iwasiuk listed a couple options for volunteers, such as taking a supported person to local sporting events or spending time at the Prairie Partners' cafe, Sawmill Tea and Coffee Company. She said currently many volunteer duties are fulfilled by employed staff on their own time.

The organization is also a month into its latest project, delivering the food program at school.

"So I've set that up as another program of Prairie Partners where we have a job coach working with two or three supported people, and they run that entire kitchen, they do the service, they do the deliveries at the school. They've actually been asked to do some catering for school events and things like that," Iwasiuk said. "That's going really, really well."

She said in terms of staff retention, Prairie Partners has been successful and has not been struggling with turnover as in the past. The organization has also seen a number of new supported persons added to their housing program.

"I think we're in a really good spot right now."
