Paul’s Hauling founder Paul Albrechtsen is one of eleven Manitobans receiving the order of Manitoba today at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

In his mid-twenties, Albrechtsen worked as a field mechanic in Virden after immigrating from Denmark with just $50 in his pocket.

He lived in tool sheds for a couple of years in order to save money to buy two trucks, and founded Paul's Hauling in 1956 to eventually become the fleet president and CEO.

The company now has about 280 employees.

Albrechtsen is widely known for his philanthropic work - donating $7 million to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Center, making him the biggest donor in the hospital's history.

The Order of Manitoba is the province's highest honour.
