The first day of the provincial election campaign saw Conservative leader Brian Pallister criss-crossing the province.

He began in Winnipeg, then was in Brandon in the afternoon, and ended at Portage la Prairie Tory candidate Ian Wishart's office. He says it's an exciting start to the election.

"We have a great team -- 57 wonderful candidates, but more than that, hundreds of volunteers. Just in today's events, it's so encouraging to see the spirit in the people, many of whom have never been involved in politics before, getting involved. It's encouraging, for sure."

Pallister urges everyone to get involved in this election.

"We love to see people get involved. Democracy shouldn't be taken for granted. It doesn't work by itself, though, we have to work at it, so I want to encourage people to be involved, and do their part to see change happen here in Manitoba. It needs to happen."

Pallister says the travel he did on day one of the campaign is only the beginning. "We're actually going to be going more than 7000 kilometres in our tour schedule, and we'll be hitting all but one riding. I was in Churchill a few weeks ago, but we'll miss Churchill, but every other constituency in the province I'll be visiting, in support of our great candidates. We're really excited to continue the outreach and the inclusion that we've doing ove the last number of years to get this province to a better place."
