The 10th Annual Killarney and District Consignment sale attracted more than 1,000 people on the weekend.

Auctioneer Scott Campbell with Fraser Auction Service says most in the crowd were there to bid.

The sale at the Del and Gert Smith farm just south of Killarney featured a variety of items.

"They've got a really good clean sale put together here this year. After ten years, they kind of got it figured out as to what to let into the sale and what to keep out. There was a really good line-up, everything from high clearance sprayers to pallet lots and it's nice to see such a huge crowd."

Unofficial numbers put attendance at well over a thousand people.

The sale had seen a few lean years but Campbell says the quality items at this year’s sale attracted buyer from as far away as the Saskatoon area.

"There were a couple of years there where we had to really look at it and determine whether we were going to continue do the sale because it was getting hard to break even on some of them. But, fortunately it has just continued to grow along with the support of the local people. That was one of the reasons we didn't quit was because of the people who wanted us to help keep it going and were confident it would get there and it has. It has become a wonderful sale that we look forward to every year."

Meanwhile, the early part of the auction season is beginning to heat up to Fraser Auction Service, according to Campbell.

This was auction sale number five for the business this spring and they have 12 more to do over the next 14 days.

"I have 16 more booked for June and August, so auctions are alive and well in Manitoba."
