A Canadian charity is connecting teachers and classrooms with donors who are looking to enrich the learning experience for students across the country. Myclassneeds.ca helps gather dollars for Kindergarten to Grade 12 projects through a crowd funding web site.

CEO Amy Coupal explains teachers post on the web site about the kind of resources or projects that they're looking for in their classrooms. "Then we connect them donors, either through funded programs or with individual donors who are looking to make contributions to projects, to help fund the resources that they need to purchase in order to implement the kinds of projects of visions that they have for their classroom."

Coupal adds donors come from all walks of life, all different areas of interest. For example some donors are passionate about education in general, some are interested in particular types of projects and others are local community members that want to support projects in area schools.

"For example, a teacher was looking for video cameras for their students to be able to do video projects and also participate in video competitions, so they actually reached out to a community of people who were interested in videos; video development; video production, and they saw donations come (from) as far away as Australia and Sweden."

She says interest and participation in this program has grown beyond expectation. Since it began in 2012, myclassneeds.ca has raised $1,075,613.64 which has helped fund 1,066 classroom projects and impacted 53,470 students. "It's been amazing to see the ideas that come from teachers and the commitment of donors to come forward and support these projects across Canada."

Coupal adds myclassneeds.ca is available to all publicly-funded classrooms in Canada.
