The Municipality of North Norfolk held its council meeting last week and are becoming concerned over some finances they're expecting from the province. Mayor Neil Christoffersen explains.

"It's been a bad year for pot holes and frost boils," says Christoffersen. "So, we did a preemptive, and got all the quotes to fix them all. We're now waiting for the province to announce their Municipal Road Improvement program. They've got us hooked on it for the last several years where it's 50/50. And this year they haven't announced it yet."

He notes the overall bill is about $200,000, and the municipality has been recipients of the grant for the last several years. Christoffersen says the province gives 50 percent of the cost up to $100,000. He explains they were initially going to make some general repairs, but there were so many frost boils this spring that it quickly became their priority. However, all of that is now sitting on hold awaiting word from the government.

"It's going to be about $200,000. They've come through with this Municipal Road Improvement program every year on a 50/50 up to $100,000. So, that's what we were counting on when we were budgeting on this year for road improvement. We were going to do some general repairs. But when all these frost boils came up, we said that's a priority. But now that's sitting on hold waiting for this grant to come along."
