A new city manager's been chosen for the City of Portage la Prairie.

Nathan Peto takes over from Jean-Marc Nadeau December 11th.

We reached Peto in Brandon this morning, and he tells us he's excited to take on the new responsibilities.

"I'm extremely honoured to be selected as the next city manager of Portage la Prairie," he says, "And I'm excited to come to Portage la Prairie. I have a lot of family there, and I'm looking forward to being part of the community, and working for the community."

Peto spent a number of years working for the City of Brandon, before coming here.

He sees establishing trust as key as he starts the new position.

"And working to achieve that trust, and keeping that trust," he says, "So the most important thing for me is to be going out and shaking hands, and meeting the community members, and understanding what they see, and what they need from their municipal government, from the administrative standpoint."

Peto adds he'll take a team approach to delivering quality services in Portage.

"I think working with our staff and administration with that mindset," he says, "And working with Council, will always come down to working as a team to really delivering quality services to the citizens of Portage la Prairie."
